Akash Deep was brought into the playing XI in place of rested Jasprit Bumrah.
India pacer Akash Deep claimed his maiden five-wicket in Test cricket on Day 5 of the second Test match against England at Edgbaston, Birmingham.
Akash, who had dismissed Ben Duckett and Joe Root in the final session on Day 4, added three more scalps to his overnight tally as he removed Ollie Pope, Harry Brook and Jamie Smith.
Thanks to his sensational spell, the visitors reduced England to 226/8 in the daunting chase of 608 runs.
The right-arm seamer was brought into the playing XI in place of Jasprit Bumrah for the second Test and he made sure that India don’t miss their pace spearhead by taking nine wickets in the match until the 56th over.
Earlier in the first innings, Akash returned with the figures of 4 for 88 in 20 overs. He complemented Mohammed Siraj (6/70) perfectly to bundle England out for 407, giving India a huge first-innings lead of 180 runs.
For his stunning exploits with the ball across two innings, Akash Deep received rich praise from the cricket fraternity on social media.
