Pant remained unfazed by the exchange and went on score 65 off just 58 balls.
Rishabh Pant had a sharp response in store for England wicketkeeper Jamie Smith during India’s second innings in the Edgbaston Test on Saturday (July 5).
As Pant was batting on the fourth day, Smith tried to break the left-hander’s rhythm with a cheeky comment about chasing a record.
The stump mic picked up the chatter, with Smith saying, “The fastest hundred is in 55 balls; you can do that today.”
In reply, Pant made a cool yet firm statement, shutting down the distraction. “I’m not really greedy for records. If it happens, it happens,” the Indian vice-captain said, reaffirming his focus on the team’s goals rather than personal milestones.
Rishabh Pant remained unfazed by the exchange and went on score 65 off just 58 balls, pushing India’s lead further ahead in the Test match.
Skipper Shubman Gill stole the show once again as he slammed 161 off 162 balls to propel India to 427/6 (declared) in the second essay, thereby setting a staggering target of 608 runs for the hosts.
Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj struck thrice with the new ball as India tightened their grip on the second Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, leaving England at 72/3 at stumps on Day 4.
