Rishabh Pant went for a big hoick and ended up losing his bat.
India’s Test vice-captain Rishabh Pant was in his elements on Day 4 of the second Test against England at Edgbaston, Birmingham.
Coming in to bat in the 30th over after KL Rahul’s dismissal, the wicketkeeper-batter smashed a four and a six on the third and fourth balls he faced Josh Tongue.
Pant was severe on the English bowlers for the rest of the morning session and went to the lunch break with 41* off 35 balls, including five boundaries and two sixes.
During his whirlwind knock, the southpaw also sent his bat flying while attempting to go for a big hit, leaving himself, the fielders, commentators and the audience in splits.
The incident unfolded in the 34th over of India’s second innings. While facing Tongue, Rishabh Pant went for a big hoick and ended up losing his bat.
The willow went flying out of Pant’s hands into the square leg region, while the ball went through to England wicketkeeper Jamie Smith.
The moment brought smile on the faces of his teammates, including the ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who is not playing this match to manage his workload. Even Pant couldn’t help himself as he looked at the skies with a laugh.

Thanks to Rishabh Pant’s fireworks, India’s overall lead climbed to 357 as they reached 177/3 at lunch on Day 4.
India added 113 runs in the first session and lost a couple of wickets in the form of Karun Nair (26) and KL Rahul (55). Skipper Shubman Gill was batting on 24 with Pant at the other end when the players head into lunch.
