Ben Stokes and Yashasvi Jaiswal exchange words on Day 1 of the Edgbaston Test.
Coming into this match on the back of a fabulous hundred at Headingley, the southpaw scored 62* in the first session, taking the visitors to 98/2 at Lunch break.
During the morning session, Jaiswal also exchanged words with Ben Stokes. Unlike his altercation with Mitchell Starc in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25, Jaiswal wasn't the one initiating it. It was the England captain who decided to have a verbal duel with the left-hander, who simply responded.
The incident unfolded in the 19th over. Stokes, after being slapped in tennis style by Jaiswal for a boundary in the fourth delivery, pulled his length back slightly in the next ball. Jaiswal tapped it with soft hands and rushed for a single. As he was running past Stokes, the England skipper said something.
When Stokes was walking back to his bowling mark, Jaiswal said: "You don't wanna hear it from me, come on." Upon hearing this, Stokes turned back and asked: "You don't wanna what?"
The exchange of words continued in the next ball. After bowling to Karun Nair, Stokes took a couple of steps towards Jaiswal and asked: "What were you saying?"
This time, Jaiswal decided to walk away without escalating the matter. Stokes said something again but when he saw the Indian batter walking towards the other end, he decided to go back.
Ben Stokes eventually had the last laugh after war of words as he dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal in the second session for 87.
Stokes bowled short and wide outside off, which wasn’t a wicket-taking delivery by any means. But Jaiswal nicked it behind the stumps and Jamie Smith grabbed it cleanly.
After getting the prized scalp, Stokes was pumped up. He was seen roaring and going towards his teammates in celebration.
