India was bowled out for 364 runs in second innings and set England 371-run target to win.
India posted 364 runs in their second innings of the first Test at Headingley against England and set the hosts 371 runs to win the match. India was able to do so thanks to centuries by KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant.
For Pant, it was his second century of the match and became the first Indian keeper to achieve this feat and second keeper-batter overall after Andy Flower of Zimbabwe.
The two innings that India played in Leeds proceeded similarly. The top order scored hundreds in both cases; five of these scores were recorded, including two from Rishabh Pant as India scored 835 runs in two innings.
However, a lower-order collapse was also observed. The last six wickets in the second innings went for just 31 runs, while the final seven wickets in the first innings fell for just 41 runs.
On Day 4 of the Test match, Prasidh Krishna was the final batsman out in the second innings. He fell going for a huge shot for a duck. However, England players had a hand in his dismissal as Krishna was encouraged to play that big shot.
It happened on the penultimate ball of the 96th over when Brook, standing in the slip cordon, was heard telling Krishna if he could hit a six.
"Can you hit big sixes?" Brook was heard on the stump mic. Krishna reacted to it, saying, "If I had to, I would be called Harry Brook."
When Krishna tried to hit a maximum off the next delivery against Shoaib Bashir, he got down on one knee and went for the cow corner, but he ended up holing it out to Josh Tongue, who dived to dismiss the player and complete India's innings. The move swiftly backfired.
