Ravindra Jadeja picked important wickets of Stokes and Jennings.
Joe Root won the toss and chose to bat first. India made two changes with Hanuma Vihari making his debut in place of Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja coming in place of R Ashwin.
Alastair Cook playing his 161st and last Test and Keaton Jennings put on a fifty run partnership with Indian bowling struggling a bit. However, soon Jadeja got Jennings caught at leg slip by Rahul for 23. Moeen Ali (50) and Cook (71) added 73 runs for the second innings before Bumrah clean bowled Cook.
Bumrah then got Root LBW for duck and Ishant had Bairstow caught behind by Pant for a duck. Stokes and Ali tried to stabilize the innings, but Jadeja trapped Stokes LBW for 11 and then Ishant sent back Ali and Curran (0) in the same over to push England on the back foot. Buttler and Rashid avoided further damage and England ended the day at 198/7.
Ishant Sharma picked three wickets, while Bumrah and Jadeja picked two each and the cricket fraternity on Twitter was amazed by the performance of Indian bowlers and appreciated their effort in form of tweets.

Just checking the test at the oval,so often you score at less than 3 runs an over you do more harm then good. You end up going nowhere. #ENGvIND

This is not a bat-first-170-5 pitch. India have been very disciplined and relentless but England must worry about their batting

India have bowled very well, but England have lacked decisive intent with their footwork and stroke play. Up to middle order to dig them out of hole. #ENDvIND

‘Slow day for England as India’s toil gets rewarded’ - Cook very impressive today and great to see Moen Ali fight hard. This Indian attack is impressive - good swing, good pace and good accuracy! #ENDvIND

Today’s England performance another painful reminder for India as to how great an opportunity they have missed to win an overseas series. #ENDvIND
