Riyan Parag scored a record 7th consecutive fifty for Assam in the tournament.
The match was the preliminary quarter-final of the SMAT 2023 which was played in Mohali. Assam captain Riyan Parag won the toss and chose to bowl first. Bengal could only manage 138/8 with Karan Lal (24), Abishek Porel (23), and Abhimanyu Easwaran, and Kaushi Maity with 21 each being the top-scorers.
Akash Sengupta picked 3 wickets, while Parag took two wickets for Assam.
In response, Bishal Roy’s 45* and Parag’s 50* were enough for Assam to cruise home with 8 wickets in hand and 13 balls remaining. Parag’s knock contained four sixes and a couple of boundaries.

Parag was chided for his celebration as many fans felt that it reeked of arrogance from the young cricketer.
However, one user on X gave a bit of context as to why Riyan Parag did that celebration. The user with the handle @HitmanCricket, revealed that a commentator had mentioned that former Assam players seemed like second-class citizens when compared to former Bengal players.
He added that Parag’s celebration was seemingly an answer to that remark by the commentator.
