Senior India batter Cheteshwar Pujara on Tuesday (July 19) continued his stellar run of form for Sussex in County Championships Division Two.

While leading Sussex on Day 1 of their match against Middlesex at Lord's, Pujara slammed a stunning century. It was his fifth hundred of the ongoing county season for Sussex.

Pujara arrived in the middle when Sussex lost both their openers with a score of 99 on the board. He kept the scoreboard moving at a brisk pace, hitting 10 fours and a six as Sussex ended the opening day on 328/4.

At the close of play on Day 1, Pujara remained unbeaten on 115.

Notably, Pujara was leading Sussex after he was named stand-in skipper for their match against Middlesex. His appointment as captain came after regular skipper Tom Haines got ruled out for up to six weeks with a broken bone in his hand while batting against Leicestershire earlier this month.

Earlier, Cheteshwar Pujara earned his callback to the Indian squad for the rescheduled fifth Test against England at Edgbaston on the back of his outstanding display in the County Championship for Sussex.

After being axed from the Indian Test side for the home series against Sri Lanka earlier this year, Pujara decided to ply his trade in the County Championship. Playing for Sussex, the veteran campaigner amassed 720 runs in eight innings, which included four centuries, to reclaim his place in the national side.

Pujara registered scores of 13 and 66 in the Edgbaston Test to keep his Test hopes alive, although India lost the match dramatically by seven wickets on the final day.
