Sandeep Sharma will play for Chandigarh in upcoming 2021-22 domestic season.
The Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament is slated to begin from November 4 onwards and will be like an audition for domestic cricketers to show off their skills as the Indian Premier League (IPL) will see a huge mega auction for the upcoming IPL 2022 edition which has two new teams in the mix, based in Lucknow and Ahmedabad.
Ahead of the 2021-22 domestic season, Sandeep Sharma decided to move to the Chandigarh team but expressed huge disappointment after he got sick from dengue and was ruled out of the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy.
“I was all set and preparing for the Mushtaq Ali T20s when I got sick. It was not in my hands and I’m very disappointed not to be a part of the Chandigarh squad but I wish the whole team all the best for the tournament. I will be back soon after recovering from dengue, can’t wait to be on the field again,” Sandeep Sharma told Circle of Cricket.
Hailing from Patiala in Punjab, Sandeep Sharma was part of India's Under-19 squad for the 2010 World Cup in New Zealand and then won the tournament with India U19 in 2012 in Australia, taking 4 wickets in the final.
As a result, Sandeep was signed by Kings XI Punjab ahead of the 2013 season. In three seasons for his franchise, Sandeep took 39 wickets. This led to him getting his maiden India call-up against Zimbabwe in 2015 for the two-match T20I series.
In 2018, Sandeep Sharma was picked by the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the IPL auction and has picked 41 wickets in 43 matches for the franchise with the best bowling of 3/19 with an economy rate of 7.78.
Overall in 44 FC matches, Sandeep has 167 wickets to his name and in 49 List-A games, he has 80 scalps. In 147 T20 matches, the right-arm pacer has taken 161 wickets with a best of 4/8 and an economy of 7.48.
