Former India speedster Irfan Pathan will be playing in the Lanka Premier League 2020 for the Kandy-based franchise, Kandy Tuskers, the franchise owner Sohail Khan revealed on Sunday.

The inclusion of Irfan in the franchise would surely help them gain fans from India. Pathan is eager to be a part of the team and share the dressing room with other renowned T20 players in the squad.

“I am extremely excited to be part of the Kandy franchisee in LPL. We have some exciting names in the team and I am looking forward for the experience,” the Baroda-based Pathan was quoted as saying in a statement issued by LPL.

The franchise already has famous names like West Indies star Chris Gayle, Sri Lanka's Kusal Perera, and Kusal Mendis as an attraction. Even England pacer Liam Plunkett was picked by Kandy in the draft. The team is coached by former Sri Lanka captain Hashan Tillakaratne.

Kandy franchise owner Sohail Khan said, “Irfan’s inclusion will not only add to the firepower of the squad but his experience will be a huge asset to the team.”

The tournament is scheduled to kick-off from November 21 to December 13 at two venues-Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Hambantota and Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy.

Talking about Irfan, the 36-year-old had announced retirement from all forms of cricket earlier this year. He was last seen in action during the Road Safety World Series.
