Sydney Thunder hosted Hobart Hurricanes in the 31st match of Big Bash League (BBL) 09 at SCG on Saturday (January 11).
Sent into bat, Hurricanes posted 162/6 in 20 overs with contributions from George Bailey (43 off 30 balls), Ben McDermott (33 off 24 balls) and Caleb Jewell (31 off 20 balls).
Daniel Sams (2/29), Chris Morris (2/32) bowled economically and picked up two wickets each for Thunder.
In reply, the home team overhauled the target with two balls to spare. Alex Hales was the top-scorer with 36-ball 55 while Usman Khawaja (35 off 29 balls) and Alex Ross (32* off 21 balls) also chipped in.
Clive Rose was the pick of the bowlers for Hurricanes, claiming 2 for 27 in his stipulated four overs.

Electing to bat first, Scorchers piled up a mammoth 213/3 in 20 overs on the back of captain Mitchell Marsh’s 41-ball 93*. Cameron Bancroft (41* off 29 balls), Liam Livingstone (39 off 31 balls) and Josh Inglis (28 off 14 balls) also made vital contributions with the bat.
Amid the carnage, only Ben Cutting (0/26) and Zahir Khan (1/33) returned with the respectable bowling figures for the visitors.
Defending the total, Scorchers restricted Heat to 179/8 in 20 overs. Except for opener Tom Banton (55 off 32 balls), none of the Brisbane batsmen managed to touch the 40-run mark.
Jhye Richardson (2/34), Joel Paris (2/29) and Chris Jordan (2/44) were the stars with the ball for the home team.
