BBL 09: Glenn Maxwell’s blitzkrieg powers Stars to seven-wicket win over Renegades

Melbourne Stars chased down the target of 169 in 18.4 overs.

Melbourne Stars continued their dominance in the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) as they defeated Melbourne Renegades by seven wickets at Docklands Stadium on Friday (January 10). It was Stars’ seventh victory in eight games and they solidify their top position on the points table.

Asked to bat first, Renegades posted 168/7 in 20 overs on the back of opener Shaun Marsh’s 43-ball 63 (7 fours and 2 sixes). Marsh’s opening partner Marcus Harris also played a significant knock of 32-ball 42.

Nathan Coulter-Nile was the pick of the bowlers for Stars, claiming 2 for 29 in his stipulated four overs.

In reply, Stars rode on skipper Glenn Maxwell’s unbeaten 83 off 45 balls to overhaul the target in 18.4 overs. Hilton Cartwright (35 off 21 balls) and Nick Larkin (33* off 28 balls) also chipped in with vital contributions with the bat.

For Renegades, Samit Patel (1/21), Cameron Boyce (1/37) and Richard Gleeson (1/24) picked up one wicket each.
