Archer will represent Southern Brave in The Hundred.
England World Cup and Ashes hero Jofra Archer recently admitted that he would love to play alongside West Indies legend Chris Gayle and South Africa great AB de Villiers in the inaugural Hundred competition.
Archer was unveiled as Southern Brave’s marquee signing on Thursday. The remaining slots in each squad will be allocated when the main draft takes place on October 20, and Archer is keen for Southern Brave to secure two of the biggest stars in the game.
When asked about which two-player he would love to see on his side, the right-arm pacer said, “I would take Chris Gayle or AB de Villiers… I would take them both!”
Having played the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Big Bash League (BBL) over the past two years, the 24-year-old pacer from Barbados is no stranger to franchise cricket. While talking about ECB’s new competition and his franchise, Archer said, “It’s very exciting. Southern Brave is going to be home for me. Hopefully, I can inspire whoever watches the competition. It’s something new to look forward to, this could be the next go-to format. Hopefully, the competitions can go a long, long way.”
England’s Chris Jordan and James Vince have also joined the franchise. Thus, Archer will be sharing the dressing room with Sussex team-mate and close friend Jordan during the Hundred.
“I’m pleased about that. I know Vincey as well so it will be nice to go into a team with a few familiar faces,” he said.
