Wriddhiman Saha set for return to action with Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy

Bengal announced squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 domestic tournament.

Indian Test wicket-keeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha is all set to return to competitive cricket, as he has been named in Bengal’s 15-member squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy on Sunday (17th February).

A fit-again Saha is set to return to action for the first time since May 25, 2018, when he last played for Sunrisers Hyderabad against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match before picking up a career-threatening shoulder injury here.

As per Press Trust of India, Saha said of his comeback on Sunday, “I'm approaching the tournament as just like returning from a normal break. It's like the start of the season for me.”

With the injury that ruled him out of action for last nine months, things have changed dramatically for Saha as Rishabh Pant established his place in the national side since his absence, though, he is not thinking much about his place as he just focusing on his performance to get back there.

The 34-year-old signed off by saying, “I've never played cricket thinking about selection. It's not in my hands. I'm focused on what is in my control and that is my performance. I'm keen to make full use of the opportunities that come my way.”

Meanwhile, Manoj Tiwary will lead Bengal with Abhimanyu Easwaran as his deputy in the T20 domestic tournament, while the stateside is clubbed alongside Mizoram, Karnataka, Assam, Haryana, Arunachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Odisha in group D, the matches for which will be held in Cuttack.

Bengal will open their Syed Mushtaq Ali 2019 campaign against Mizoram in Cuttack on February 21.
