Faiz Fazal was an elated captain as Vidarbha registered a comprehensive 78-run victory over Saurashtra in the summit clash of Ranji Trophy 2017-18. By virtue of this win, Vidarbha successfully defended their Ranji title as well.

Chasing 206 in the fourth innings, Saurashtra were bundled out for 127. Left-arm spinner Aditya Sarwate, who claimed a five-wicket haul in the first innings, recorded the figures of 6 for 59 in the second essay for Vidarbha.

"It feels unreal. Behind all this there is a lot of hard work from each and everyone. It is different, first time is always special but we had to work really hard this season. The whole team worked hard in the off season," Fazal said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

The Vidarbha skipper also acknowledged the contribution of each and every member in the team and also had a special word of praise for his support staff.

"Really happy with the entire season but more happy with the way we played this final. Can't thank them enough, each and every member of the support stuff has been incredible. They give us everything and make our life comfortable," he added.

With this triumph, Fazal also joined an elite list of captains to win two consecutive Ranji Trophy titles. He became the 11th skipper to accomplish this feat.

"Lucky charm maybe (talking about captaincy). Hopefully I continue for a few more years," Fazal said.

Aditya Sarwate was adjudged Player-of-the-Match for his 11 wickets in the match. He also registered his 12th five-wicket haul in first-class cricket.

"It was a terrific final. I would like to congratulate the Saurashtra team to coming this far. They (team management) are always there for us. In the second innings it was difficult to rotate the strike but the idea was to bat long and let the pitch deteriorate. The runs with the tail were crucial," Sarwate said at the post-match presentation.
