Badoni has been prolific in the ongoing Ranji Trophy season for Delhi.
Ayush Badoni slammed an unbeaten double century for Delhi in a rain-marred Ranji Trophy 2026-27 fixture against Jharkhand, earning Player of the Match honors despite persistent drizzle washing out the final two days.
This monumental knock of 210* off 228 balls followed a flawless 217 against Gujarat in the previous round. By hitting back-to-back First-Class double hundreds, Badoni joined Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir as only the third Delhi batter to accomplish this historic feat.
By the end of Day 2 in Ranchi, Delhi's bowlers completely pinned down the hosts, reducing Jharkhand to a precarious 131 for 4.
Unfortunately for Delhi, heavy rains triggered by Cyclone Arnab completely washed out Days 3 and 4. Since Jharkhand's first innings couldn't be completed, Delhi missed out on a crucial first-innings lead or an outright win, forcing both teams to settle for just 1 point each from the drawn encounter.
“We were well ahead. It is unfortunate that the rain played spoilsport, and we have not been able to get six points,” Badoni was quoted as saying by Sportstar.
Ayush Badoni’s current red-hot streak has pushed his career First-Class batting average to an impressive 63.84.
Following sub-par outings and a recent omission from the India A squad, the right-hander completely overhauled his preparation—training by batting for six hours a day to replicate the physical demands of Ranji Trophy matches.
“Last season, the games didn’t go very well for India-A. I wanted to make a statement. The dream is to play for India. So, I am just thinking now to make as many runs as possible and not give away my wicket,” Badoni stated.
“Having played two to three Ranji seasons, I realised that I needed to alter my preparation. In the build-up to this season, I practised for six hours of batting in a day. We play for six hours everyday in a Ranji game. So, I trained like that from morning to evening, with breaks for lunch and tea,” he remarked.
