India's top players are currently playing for their state teams in the domestic one-day tournament.
As a result, the likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are representing their respective state teams in the opening round of the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Apart from the two batting stalwarts, Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, KL Rahul, Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Arshdeep Singh among other national players will also feature in at least two matches of the premier domestic one-day tournament.
But Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah will not turn up for his domestic side, Gujarat. The development was confirmed by Gujarat Cricket Association secretary Anil Patel.
“Bumrah will not feature in VHT as he is taking rest," Patel was quoted as saying by TOI on Tuesday.
Ever since Bumrah sustained a back spasm in the Sydney Test against Australia, the Indian team management has been extra careful about managing his workload. As a result of that injury, he missed the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and the initial few matches of the IPL 2025 season for Mumbai Indians.
Ahead of the England tour, Bumrah had revealed that he himself requested the BCCI not to consider him for Test captaincy after Rohit Sharma's retirement, as he would not be able to play all five Tests.
Bumrah participated in three Tests of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, and has skipped the last two ODI series against Australia and South Africa. He is unlikely to be picked for the three-match ODI series against New Zealand in January 2026.
Bumrah will return to action during the five-match T20I series against New Zealand next month, before playing the T20 World Cup 2026 matches for India at home.
