India’s teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi rewrote history books on the opening day of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 while playing for Bihar against Arunachal Pradesh.
Sooryavanshi, aged 14 years 272 days, became the youngest player ever to hit a List A century and later smashed the record for the fastest 150 in the history of one-day cricket.
The southpaw looked set to break the record for scoring the quickest double ton in white-ball cricket history, but was dismissed for 190 off 84 balls.
Opening the innings, Sooryavanshi brought up his maiden List A century in just 36 balls, the third-fastest Indian to achieve this feat, trailing Sakibul Gani’s 32-ball effort from this match and Anmolpreet Singh's 35-ball effort from last year.
His carnage continued post the three-figure mark, reaching 150 runs in a mere 59 balls. This effort eclipsed the previous world record held by AB de Villiers (64 balls) for the fastest 150 in List A cricket.
Sooryavanshi knock was a masterclass in explosive hitting. It included a staggering 16 fours and 15 sixes. He jaw-dropping innings came at a strike rate of 226.19 as Arunachal Pradesh bowling attack was taken to the cleaners.
Talking about the match, Bihar racked up a gigantic 574/6 in their allotted 50 overs – the highest ever in List A cricket. Apart from Vaibhav, Bihar skipper Sakibul Gani returned with 128 not out off 40 balls while wicketkeeper Ayush Anand Loharuka scored 116 off 56 balls.
Coming to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, he took the cricketing world by storm with his dazzling exploits in the Indian Premier League earlier this year.
Playing for Rajasthan Royals, the swashbuckling left-hander scored 252 runs in seven matches with a strike rate of 206.55. The highlight of his maiden IPL season was the mind-blowing 35-ball century against Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.
Sooryavanshi, at just 14 years and 32 days, became the youngest-ever batter to score a ton in the cash-rich league. His 101-run knock off 38 balls, studded with seven boundaries and 11 sixes, paved the way for RR’s eight-wicket victory in the chase of 210 with 25 deliveries to spare.
During the course of his whirlwind innings, Sooryavanshi broke Yusuf Pathan's 15-year-old record for the fastest IPL hundred by an Indian. His ton was the second fastest in the tournament history after Chris Gayle's century in 30 balls for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2013.
Last month, Sooryavanshi slammed a 32-ball hundred for India A in the Asia Cup Rising Stars tournament against UAE. His extraordinary talent and aggressive approach to batting has already drawn comparisons to legendary figures.
