CWC 2019: England- COC Players' Ratings

CWC 2019: England- COC Players' Ratings

England became World Champs for the first time after three defeats in finals in 1979, 1987 and 1992.

By Jatin Sharma - 16 Jul, 2019

Finally, the inventors of the game of cricket, England have won an ICC ODI World Cup and proved their supporters correct after they were touted as the favorites to do so. They did manage to make things hard for themselves and barely qualified for the knockouts. But throughout the tournament, the home team was never in doubt that they were indeed in the tournament to win it.

Eoin Morgan had built that self-belief in the team that they could do it and picked the right players to do it. There were some players who should have been in the squad but missed out due to pure chance. The players who were picked showed why the selectors put their trust in them. Ben Stokes put the stage on fire with his brilliant catch in the tournament opener and Jofra Archer showed why he was rated so high throughout the tournament.

Everyone played their roles to perfection and this led to probably the greatest day in English cricket history. Therefore, Team COC presents to you the players’ rating of ICC World Cup 2019.

Here are the players’ ratings for England in the ICC World Cup 2019

BEN STOKES- 10/10

Man of the final Ben Stokes was probably determined to win the trophy for himself and the team. He was always there whenever the team needed with the bat or the ball, even in the field he was giving his 100%. When the going was tough in the finals, Stokes was determined to see it through for the home team. He made 465 runs and picked 7 wickets and made a brilliant 84* in the finals.

JOFRA ARCHER- 10/10

Jofra Archer proved his supporters right and his detractors wrong with an amazing performance in the tournament, where he picked 20 wickets and bowled excitingly quick. Archer knew that England only needed a tie in the Super Over in the finals to make his team the World Champions and he did exactly that.

JASON ROY- 9/10

Jason Roy was the lynchpin for England at the top and amassed 443 runs with four fifties and one century, a score of 153. He came back with vigor after an injury layoff and smashed England into the finals with a brilliant 80-odd against Australia in the semis. He was definitely one of the best openers in the tournament, probably along with Rohit Sharma.

JOE ROOT- 9/10

Joe Root was the anchor of England innings around whom the entire batting revolved. He made 556 runs, the most for England with two centuries and three half-centuries. Root may not have scored in bulk in the final few matches, but he had done enough to put England on road to becoming world champions.

CHRIS WOAKES- 8/10

Chris Woakes picked 16 wickets in 11 matches and was the Man of the Match in the semi-finals for his 3/20, given that he blew away Australia with the new ball. He also picked three wickets against New Zealand in the finals and was overall a great addition to the world champions side.

JONNY BAIRSTOW- 8/10

Jonny Bairstow did what he does best, hammer the opposition and dominate their bowling. He made 532 runs at the top with two centuries which came in must-win games against India and New Zealand. England needed to win these matches and Bairstow raised to the occasion. He was very good in the field as well.

LIAM PLUNKETT- 8/10

Liam Plunkett knew this was his last chance to win a World Cup given that he is 34 years old. He picked 11 wickets, including 3/42 in the finals against New Zealand and even contributed with the bat, when needed with the highest score of 27* against Bangladesh.

EOIN MORGAN- 7/10
England captain Eoin Morgan will always be remembered for his world record 17 sixes against Afghanistan in the tournament. He made 148 runs in the match, but otherwise was a bit of flop with the bat in remaining matches. His captaincy, however, was top class, keeping his team focused on the goal of becoming world champs all throughout the duration of the tournament.

MARK WOOD- 7/10

Mark Wood formed a fearsome pair of opening fast bowlers along with Jofra Archer. He picked 18 wickets in 11 matches with the best bowling of 3/18. Wood was the perfect foil for a more aggressive Archer and his economy of 5.16 helped build the pressure as well.

JOS BUTTLER- 7/10
Jos Buttler played two important innings in the tournament, one ended in defeat and another helped England win the trophy. His century against Pakistan almost took the team to the win, but his all-important 59 came against New Zealand in the final, as he and Stokes put on more than 100 and put England in a position of advantage. He also made 14 dismissals behind the stumps as well.

ADIL RASHID- 3/10

Adil Rashid played all the games in the tournament and picked 11 wickets at an economy of 5.71. He was there to keep the runs down and give breaks to the fast bowlers in between spells and did his job perfectly well.

MOEEN ALI- 3/10
Moeen Ali may say that his performance in the World Cup was a disappointment as he picked 5 wickets and made 75 runs in five matches. He didn’t seem to be in form and with a slew of fast bowlers at their expense, England chose to bench him for important matches.

JAMES VINCE- 1/10
James Vince was a surprise pick in the England squad for the World Cup, but when he got a chance to play three games because of injury to Roy, he managed just 40 runs with the best score of 26.
