Dhawan's fracture of his left thumb will not heal before the World Cup gets over.
Dhawan had been hit on his left hand by a Pat Cummins short delivery and he could only continue after getting treatment by the Indian physio. However, after his innings ended and he went for scans, it was revealed that Dhawan had sustained hairline fracture to his left thumb and initially it was thought that he might get fit for the later part of the tournament.
The team management had called in Rishabh Pant as cover for Dhawan. But on June 19, the Indian team management has confirmed that Dhawan’s injury has not healed as per expectations and after consultation with a specialist in Leeds, it was determined that his hand needed to be in the cast throughout the month of July, ruling him out of the tournament. Rishabh Pant has been officially named his replacement in the squad.
The Indian cricket fraternity was shocked at the news and showed reactions on Twitter and we have some of them for you.
