CWC 2019: BCCI gives an update on Vijay Shankar’s injury status

Vijay Shankar was hit on his hand on eve of warm-up game against New Zealand.

The ICC World Cup 2019 is slated to begin from May 30 and will see South Africa taking on hosts England in the very first match of the tournament. Currently, the 10 teams are engaged in warm-up matches with each team playing two games each.

Indian team is scheduled to play New Zealand at the Oval on May 25 but suffered an injury scare when all-rounder Vijay Shankar was hit on his right forearm while batting in the nets on the eve of the match. Shankar was hit by Khaleel Ahmed and was immediately taken for scans by the Indian team’s medical staff.

Shankar pitted as the first-choice No. 4 for India in the World Cup, walked off wincing in pain during India’s practice session on Friday, keeping the Indian team and billions of fans on the edge of their seats.

Now, the BCCI has given an update on Shankar’s injury in a tweet mentioning, “Vijay Shankar was hit on his right forearm during practice on Friday. He underwent scans and no fracture has been detected. BCCI Medical Team is aiding him in his recovery.

As of now, the all-rounder looks set to feature in India’s next warm-up game against Bangladesh on May 28. Meanwhile, KL Rahul was slotted at no.4 spot in the Indian team for the warmup game against Kiwis. After the two warm-up games, India starts their World Cup campaign against South Africa on June 5.
