CWC 2019: "Australia can go as far as they want to go in the World Cup," says Brett Lee

Lee believes that the conditions in England will be more helpful for the batsmen than the bowlers

Just like every cricket fan, former Australian World Cup winning pacer Brett Lee thinks that his national side has it in them to defend the title. As being an experienced campaigner who has played in England, he brings to the fore that the team that adjusts the best to the conditions will lift the trophy.

Lee is confident that these are the best players in Australia and the team is capable of not only competing but also winning against the best teams at the World Cup. Jhye Richardson was recently ruled out due to a shoulder injury but Kane Richardson has been called up to replace him in the squad.

Lee told IANS, “They can go as far as they want to go. They are a good team. There has been an injury for one of the fast bowlers and Jhye Richardson is out of the World Cup, but Kane Richardson has been brought in. Look, any side that goes to the World Cup will be very well prepared. It's all about who adapts well to the English wickets.

England is known for its bowling-friendly conditions but the Australian pointed out that the months of June-July don’t offer as friendly conditions to the bowlers.

He said, “We've got to keep in mind what time the tournament will be played. It is in June and July and the wickets over there aren't really conducive to fast bowling at that time of the year.

So a lot of people think it will be a bowler's wicket, but it's not necessarily the case. I think they will be okay with the brand new ball, but once the shine goes from the ball it's going to be hard work for the fast bowlers,” he added.
