Virat Kohli completed 14,000 ODI runs and scored his 51st ton in the format.
During India's ICC Champions Trophy 2025 match against Pakistan in Dubai on Sunday, Axar Patel was counting runs as Virat Kohli reached his century. Patel joined Kohli at the crease when India needed 19 runs to win, with Kohli scoring 86.
Virat Kohli had anchored one end after Rohit Sharma (20) and Shubman Gill (46) set the platform for India to chase down 241 runs against Pakistan. Kohli got support from Shreyas Iyer (56), while the Indian veteran continued to take doubles and singles, hitting only 7 fours in his 100* in 111 balls, as India won by 6 wickets.
Axar Patel, in conversation with ICC, revealed the excitement of batting with Virat Kohli and how he had to perform maths in the end to get Virat Kohli to his hundred. During his knock, Virat Kohli completed 14,000 runs in ODIs and also hit his 51st ODI ton and 82nd century in international cricket.
"At the end, actually main bhi thoda maths kar raha tha unke hundred ke liye (Even I was doing the math for his hundred towards the end). I was hoping that I don't edge the ball or something. So, it was quite fun," Axar said in a video posted by ICC.
The scenario grew more complicated when Shaheen Afridi delivered three wides in the 42nd over. The audience was displeased when Axar took a single, as they expected Kohli to continue his strike.
With only two runs left for win and Kohli on 96, skipper Rohit Sharma signaled for him to finish with six. Kohli responded by hitting an immaculate boundary to finish his century rather than attempting a six.
"It was the first time I got to watch a high-pressure game from the dressing room where Virat bhaiya scored a century. I had a lot of fun, and the way he was running between the wickets after fielding for 50 overs is a testament to his fitness," Axar added.
