Several reports have claimed that BCCI doesn’t want Pakistan’s name printed on the Indian cricket team’s jerseys.
With the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 around the corner, there are reports claiming that the BCCI doesn’t want Pakistan’s name printed on the Indian cricket team’s jerseys.
However, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has clarified that the name of the hosts would feature on the team uniforms.
An ICC official said that all teams are bound by the ICC regulations to sport the tournament’s official logo on their jerseys. The logo will also include the name of the host nation.
Pakistan are the official hosts of the upcoming Champions Trophy. However, India’s matches will take place in the UAE under a hybrid model arrangement.
“It is the responsibility of every team to add the tournament logo to their jerseys. All teams are obligated to comply with this rule,” an ICC source was quoted as saying by Pakistan’s A Sports.
The report further stated that any team failing to abide by the ICC protocols will have to face “strict” action.
The news of the BCCI allegedly refusing to display Pakistan’s name on India’s jerseys emerged after news agency IANS reported the same, citing a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) source.
The PCB source was discussing reports that India skipper Rohit Sharma would not travel to Pakistan to attend the captains’ meet ahead the eight-team tournament.
During the conversation, the source also claimed that the BCCI opposes featuring Pakistan’s name on their jerseys and called for ICC’s intervention on this matter.
“BCCI is bringing politics into cricket, which is not at all good for the game. They refused to travel to Pakistan. They don’t want to send their captain (to Pakistan) for the opening ceremony, now there are reports that they don’t want the host nation’s (Pakistan) name printed on their jersey. We believe that the world governing body (ICC) will not let this happen and support Pakistan," a PCB official told IANS on Monday (January 20).
While the Champions Trophy 2025 is slated to get underway on February 19 with the Pakistan versus New Zealand clash in Karachi, India will begin their campaign on February 20 against Bangladesh at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
