Jasprit Bumrah is on a record-breaking spree in the ongoing tour of Australia and the Indian pace spearhead added another feather to his cap on Sunday (December 29).

During Australia’s second innings in the ongoing Boxing Day Test at MCG, Bumrah produced another fast-bowling masterclass to leave the hosts in dire straits.

Bumrah returned with four scalps, and managed to cross the 200 Test wicket milestone during his blitz. He became the 12th Indian bowler to achieve this feat.

The right-arm quick now boasts a unique record, being the only bowler in Test history with a minimum of 200 dismissals and an average less than 20 (19.41). Close to him in the tally are former West Indies legends Malcolm Marshall (20.94), Joel Garner (20.97) and Curtly Ambrose (20.99).

Among the current crop of pacers, Kagiso Rabada (321 Test wickets at 21.88) and Pat Cummins (286 at 22.68) are next in the tally.

Jasprit Bumrah has been on an inspired run with the ball in the longest format this year, having picked up 70 wickets from 13 Tests.

Bumrah, who was the chief architect behind India’s Perth Test won, now has 29 wickets to his name in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. With one match remaining in the series, he can easily add a few more to his tally.

For his record-breaking spell on Day 4 of the Melbourne Test, Jasprit Bumrah received rich praise from the cricket fraternity on social media.
