Jaiswal took off for a risky single while Kohli was ball-watching.
The incident took place on the last ball of the 41st over when, Jaiswal looking to steal a single, drive a full Scott Boland delivery to mid-on. Soon after hitting it, the southpaw took off while his partner Virat Kohli was ball-watching at the non-striker’s end.
Australian captain Pat Cummins was quick to react as he threw the ball at the striker’s end after swiftly collecting it. While the throw missed the target, wicketkeeper Alex Carey was alert as he picked the ball and ran up to the stumps to effect the run-out.
Yashasvi Jaiswal wasn’t happy as he walked back to the pavilion after scoring 82 off 118 balls, including 11 boundaries and one six. The unfortunate run-out also ended the 102-run partnership between Jaiswal and Kohli.
An over later, Kohli was also dismissed for 36 while chasing a wide delivery from Boland. The two quick wickets reduced the India to 154/4 in reply to Australia’s first innings total of 474.
Nightwatchman Akash Deep also failed to survive against Boland as the visitors lost half their side for 164/5 at stumps, still trailing Australia by 310 runs.
