Indian team managed to avoid follow-on in the ongoing third BGT 2024 Test against Australia on December 17, 2024. This was mainly due to the efforts put in by the last wicket stand of Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep at the Gabba.

Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul started as India resumed at 51/4 on day four. However, the India captain was dismissed for ten runs by his Australian rival. Rahul, however, was supported by Ravindra Jadeja, who anchored one end.

After the pair amassed 67 runs for the sixth wicket, KL Rahul was removed for 84 runs in 139 balls with eight fours. Jadeja led the tailenders and hit 77 runs with seven fours and one six before being out to Cummins.

To avoid follow-on, Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep, however, were able to escape any problems and gradually lead India to the mark of 246 runs. India surpassed the follow-on score threshold when Akash Deep smashed a four off Pat Cummins.

Akash didn’t stop there, but hammered a huge six in the same over to Cummins to take India to 252/9 by the time umpires called stumps on day four due to rain. India still trails by 193 runs to Australia and there is only one day left in the game.

The cricket fraternity was all praises for the final wicket unbeaten 39-run stand between Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep that took India past the follow-on mark.
