Starc's delivery swung late in to Shubman Gill and hit the middle stump.
Shubman Gill received one of the best deliveries from Mitchell Starc that damaged his middle stump on day 2 of the ongoing second BGT 2024 Test in Adelaide on Saturday, December 7, 2024.
Thanks to Travis Head’s amazing knock of 140 with 17 fours and 4 sixes and Marnus Labuschagne’s 64, Australia posted 337 runs in their first innings in reply to India’s 180. This gave the hosts a huge lead of 157 runs after first do.
In response, India was expected to do a repeat of what they did in the Perth Test, but Australian bowlers had some other ideas. KL Rahul departed for 7 runs to Pat Cummins. Yashasvi Jaiswal (24) and Shubman Gill (28) then added a few runs and seemed to have steadied the innings.
But then India lost three wickets in no time as Jaiswal was caught behind off Scott Boland, while Virat Kohli’s weakness outside off stump saw him gifting his wicket to Boland as well for 11 runs.
Shubman Gill looked stoic and set for a big one, but then Mitchell Starc conjured up a magical delivery to get rid of him. On the second ball of 18th over, Starc bowled a brilliant inswinger, that started on the off-stump and swung into Gill late.
The Indian batter had committed to playing on the off side and the movement led to the ball going in between the bat and pad gap and it flattened the middle stump as Gill walked back with disappointment on his face.
