Team India had a tough outing on Day 1 of the pink-ball Test against Australia at the Adelaide Oval. However, their fans found a reason to smile in the final session of play, thanks to a speed-gun malfunction.
With Mohammed Siraj steaming in to bowl, fans were taken aback as the speedometer showed the pacer to have delivered a ball at 181.6 kmph, a number which would beat the current bowling speed record by 20 kmph.
Netizens were quick to spot the difference between Siraj’s delivery and the speed shown on TV, leading to some hilarious reactions.
The speed-gun malfunction episode unfolded in the same over as Siraj’s confrontation with Marnus Labuschagne.
The Australian batter moved away from his stance due to distraction after a spectator was seen walking near the sight screen. However, Siraj in his emotions, got frustrated and threw the ball at the stumps from his delivery stride. Labuschagne laughed off and signaled him towards the fans distracting him after the incident.
Coming to the match, India’s first innings folded for 180 in 44.1 overs after the visitors won the toss and opted to bat first. Nitish Reddy was the top scorer with 42 off 54 balls.
In reply, the hosts reached 86/1 at the close of play, with Nathan McSweeney (38*) and Marnus Labuschagne (20*) unbeaten in the middle. Jasprit Bumrah took the only wicket of Usman Khawaja that fell in Australia’s first innings.
