Ahead of the pink-ball Test against India in Adelaide, Australia have been dealt with an injury scare as star batter Steve Smith walked off the nets after getting hit on his finger during practice.

Smith, one of the prominent figures in the Australia line-up, was hit by a throwdown from teammate Marnus Labuschagne.

As reported by RevSportz, Smith left the nets after being attended by the physio. The nature of the injury is yet to be identified. However, it has intensified Australia’s injury woes, especially after the hosts lost ace pacer Josh Hazlewood for the second Test, slated to get underway on December 6.

In another clip posted by RevSportz on X, Labuschagne could be seen sitting down on the ground in discomfort. He was reportedly struck by a rising delivery from bowling coach Daniel Vettori. However, the batter got up and continued batting.

The Aussies have already been hit by the injury of Josh Hazlewood, who has been ruled out of the second Test with a "low-grade left side injury."

Uncapped pacers Sean Abbott and Brendan Doggett have been included in the squad. However, it is likely that Scott Boland, a member of the original squad, will replace injured Hazlewood in the playing XI.

Hazlewood’s absence comes as a body blow for the Aussies. He had delivered a memorable spell against India in Adelaide during their last day-night Test in December 2021, claiming 5 for 8 in five overs.

During the Border-Gavaskar Trophy opener in Perth last week, Hazlewood returned with five wickets, including the figures of 4/29 in the first innings.

Australia are trailing 0-1 in the five-match series after losing the Perth Test against India by 295 runs.
