Jasprit Bumrah took 8/72 in India's win in Perth Test and was named Player of the Match.
Legendary pacer Wasim Akram revealed how Jasprit Bumrah’s unique bowling action makes him a terror for opposition batters. Bumrah recently captained India to win the first Test in Perth in the ongoing BGT 2024 Test series.
Bumrah, captaining India in the absence of Rohit Sharma, led from the front, taking 8 wickets in the match, including a fifer. His 8/72 in the match helped India defeat Australia by 295 runs in the end, and Bumrah was named the Player of the Match for his effort.
Wasim Akram decoded Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling action for Star Sports and revealed how it makes for the batters to score runs off him.
Explaining his wrist action and skidding of the ball, Akram said on Star Sports, "Bumrah's bowling arm comes from behind (the shoulder) the hyper-extension and in the end, as we say in Punjabi "tunka" flick of the wrist that makes the ball skid which as a batsman you don't expect especially on the wickets where the ball is keeping low, he has troubled the batsmen with that action which is natural and it is very tough to flick the wrist in the end."
Bumrah almost defies physics by releasing the ball 34 cm ahead of the popping crease, whereas most bowlers release it 10 ccmahead of the line. Bumrah's extra 24 cms from his release point makes him a nightmare, allowing him to get the ball to the batter faster than anyone else.
"The release point of Bumrah's delivery also differs by almost 40 cms and that makes a quite a big difference at this pace and that's why his deliveries skid after pitching,” Akram added.
