The first test between Australia and India was played in Perth, and the visitors won by 295 runs. The Indian team made a remarkable comeback after being knocked out for 150 runs in the first innings.

Jasprit Bumrah won the toss as stand-in captain in Rohit Sharma's absence and elected to bat first. However, Josh Hazlewood's four wickets, along with two wickets each from Mitchell Marsh, Pat Cummins, and Mitchell Starc, kept India's score low.

Debutant Nitish Kumar Reddy led India's scoring with 41 runs, while Rishabh Pant added 37 as India was bundled for 150.

The Australian batting team was widely expected to perform well, but they were unable to match Jasprit Bumrah's brilliance. Bumrah took four wickets on day one, reducing Australia to 67/7.

The tailenders' resilience helped Australia reach 104 runs, with Bumrah taking 5/30 and rookie Harshit Rana taking 3 wickets.

In their second innings, Indian openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul remained patient and blasted the poor balls. They scored a record 201 runs for the first wicket, with KL Rahul going for 77 runs. Jaiswal continued and scored 161, his fourth test century and first in Australia.

Virat Kohli then joined in the fun, hitting 100* off 143 balls as Jasprit Bumrah declared India's innings at 487/6. The Australian hitters failed again, finishing day three with a score of 12/3.

Despite the resilience of Travis Head (89), Mitchell Marsh (47), and Alex Carey (36), the Indian bowlers bowled Australia out for 238 and won the Perth test by 295 runs. Jasprit Bumrah was once again the hero, taking three wickets, while Mohammed Siraj also claimed three.

Jasprit Bumrah was also named Player of the Match for his 8 wickets in the encounter. He stated that he was proud of the Indian team and its performance.

“Very happy with the beginning. Were put under pressure in the first innings, but the way we responded after that - very proud. Played here in 2018. I remember that when you start here, the wicket is a little soft and then it gets quicker and quicker. Was relying on that experience. This wicket was a little less spicy than the last one. We were really well prepared so I was telling everyone to have faith in their process and ability. On a given day, experience does matter, but if you have faith you can do something special. Can't ask for anything else,” Bumrah said at the post-match presentation.

Bumrah was also praiseful of the two Indian centurions Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli, who hammered the Australian bowlers in the second innings.

Jaiswal has had a great start to his Test career. This was his best Test innings probably. He left the ball - he has an attacking nature, but he left the ball well and played long. About Virat - I didn't see him out of form at all because, you know, sometimes you play on challenging wickets. It's difficult to judge whether a batsman is in form or not but he was looking very good in the nets. So, yeah, hopefully, he'll build up on the confidence and go from strength to strength Always enjoy the support (from the crowd),” he added.

The second Test will be played in Adelaide under lights with the pink ball from December 6 onwards.
