India had batted first and posted 150 in 1st innings, after Jasprit Bumrah won the toss.
Harshit Rana made his Test debut memorable as he picked the wicket of dangerous Travis Head on day one of the first BGT 2024 Test being played between Australia and India in Perth.
Jasprit Bumrah, India's captain, won the toss and chose to bat. However, the decision backfired as India was folded for 150 runs. Debutant Nitish Reddy (41), Rishabh Pant (37), and KL Rahul (26) were the top scorers for the Indian team.
Josh Hazlewood picked 4/29, while Mitchell Starc, Mitchell Marsh, and Pat Cummins took 2 wickets apiece.
In response, Jasprit Bumrah rattled the Australian top-order with wickets of Nathan McSweeney (10), Usman Khawaja (8) and Steve Smith (0).
Harshit Rana was then brought into the attack by Bumrah and the debutant took full advantage of the bounce in Perth pitch to trouble the Australian batters. Travis Head then hit two fours to calm down the host’s nerves.
In the 12th over, on the first ball, Harshit Rana went around the wicket to Travis Head. He bowled a full-length ball outside off stump to which Head, who was stuck in the back foot, tried to defend from the crease itself.
However, the ball went past his outside edge and rattled the off-stump. The bails flew through the air, and Rana set off on a joyous run. Travis Head had no response to this ball since he was absolutely confused by the debutant's quickness.
