The Indian captain Jasprit Bumrah started well in the first Test of the BGT 2025 against Australia in Perth’s Optus Stadium. Bumrah, who is captaining India in Rohit Sharma’s absence, won the toss and chose to bat first.

However, the bounce and seam of the hard Perth pitch proved to be too much as India folded for 150 runs in their first innings.

Yashasvi Jaiswal fell for a duck and he was followed by Devdutt Padikkal (0) and Virat Kohli (5). KL Rahul (26) received a harsh decision from the TV umpire, while Dhruv Jurel (11) and Washington Sundar (4) followed shortly after.

Rishabh Pant (37) and debutant Nitish Reddy (41) added 48 valuable runs, as India folded soon after these two fell.

Jasprit Bumrah then rattled the Australian top-order as he had Nathan McSweeney LBW for 10 runs and then had Usman Khawaja (8) and Steve Smith (0) dismissed in the same over. Smith earned a golden duck.

He could’ve had Marnus Labuschagne as well, but Kohli dropped his catch in slips. Bumrah not only bowled excellently but also captained nicely as he rotated himself and the other two pacers nicely. Jasprit Bumrah’s three wickets helped India gain an upper hand despite their below par first innings total.

Bumrah received wide praise on social media from the cricket fraternity, who lauded him for his excellent bowling.
