India batted first in Perth after winning the toss and made 150.
The first Test of the five-match BGT 2024 series between Australia and India began on November 22, 2024, at Perth's Optus Stadium. India captain Jasprit Bumrah won the toss and decided to bat first.
However, the start was far from perfect, with Mitchell Starc dismissing Yashasvi Jaiswal for a duck in his first innings in Australia. Then Josh Hazlewood dismissed Devdutt Padikkal (0) and Virat Kohli (5).
KL Rahul, who played solidly, received a severe decision from the TV umpire and was dismissed for 26 runs. Dhruv Jurel (11) and Washington Sundar (4) followed shortly after. Then Rishabh Pant (37) and debutant Nitish Reddy (41) added 48 valuable runs.
However, the end came swiftly as India was bowled out for 150 at tea.
When Australia’s turn to bat came, their debutant Nathan McSweeney started off well, scoring 10 runs in 13 balls, but his knock was cut short by India captain Jasprit Bumrah. He got the opener out LBW after India opted for a DRS review.
One ball later, Bumrah should’ve had the wicket of Marnus Labuschagne. Bumrah got Marnus to edge a ball to the second slip. Virat Kohli fielding at the position, took the catch properly, going down, but as his knees and elbow hit the ground, the ball popped out.
The Indian fielders and Bumrah had begun celebrating, but Kohli notified them that he had dropped the catch. This left Bumrah stunned as his hard work went in vain.
