The first Test of the five-match BGT 2024 series between Australia and India got underway in Perth’s Optus Stadium on November 22, 2024. India captain Jasprit Bumrah won the toss and chose to bat first.

However, the start was far from ideal as Yashasvi Jaiswal got out for a duck in his first innings in Australia to Mitchell Starc. Then Josh Hazlewood accounted for Devdutt Padikkal (0) and the big fish Virat Kohli (5).

KL Rahul, who played steadily received a harsh decision by the TV umpire and was out for 26 runs. Dhruv Jurel (11) and Washington Sundar (4) followed soon after, leaving Rishabh Pant alone at one end.

But then Pant got support from debutant Nitish Reddy, and the duo put on 48 runs for the 7th wicket. Pant made 37 runs with 3 fours and one six, and that shot was an audacious one.

Rishabh Pant hit a stunning shot off Pat Cummins on the last ball of the 42nd over. He hit a sweep/flick for six to a full ball angled on off stump. He collapsed his back knee and blasted the delivery for six over the fine leg boundary. It was one of Pant's many impressive shots.

Ladies and gentlemen stop what you are doing right now. Get your jaw together again because this is Rishabh Pant and this is why he is box office and just one of the 'wow' players in the game,” Harsha Bhogle said on Fox Cricket commentary.

"Trademark, trademark Rishabh Pant. Seen him play that time and time again in IPL. Wow, look at him, so composed, and played it real late. That's a half-volley," David Warner said.

"I don't know which replay I want to see again, whether it's this one, which is eye-catching in itself, or the look on your face when he actually played it. I've seen him play this before, but this on a large boundary with a man on the boundary already," Bhogle added.

Meanwhile, India was bowled out for 150 runs at tea as Nitish Reddy made 41 in his first outing in Tests. For Australia, Josh Hazlewood picked 4 wickets, while Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, and Mitchell Marsh picked two scalps each.
