India and Australia are set to clash in the first Test of the five-match BGT 2024 (Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25) series. The match will be played in Perth’s Optus Stadium from November 22 onwards and Harshit Rana and Prasidh Krishna are vying for the 3rd pacer role in the visitors’ XI.

Harshit, who is only ten first-class matches old, has reportedly wowed the bigwigs with his ability to extract decent bounce and his constant pace above 140 clicks. Harshit repeatedly used his raw speed to hurry the batters during the India nets at the WACA facility in Perth.

However, Prasidh Krishna, who was outstanding in the previous A series against Australia at Mackay and Melbourne, spent a lot of time with India's bowling coach Morne Morkel. Prasidh can strike the top of the off-stump and has played in two Test matches.

Meanwhile, the BCCI and Indian team management have decided against rushing to bring in Mohammad Shami to Australia.

The BCCI medical team and national selectors, according to those with knowledge of the situation, want Shami to participate in a few more competitive matches in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy to see how his body is holding up after several games, even if they are played in a white ball format.

Bengal team for Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy will be selected tomorrow. If Shami is not going for the Border Gavaskar Trophy, I believe he will be available for Bengal,” head coach Laxmi Ratan Shukla told PTI.

Shami played his first competitive game after one year and picked 7 wickets to help Bengal defeat Madhya Pradesh.
