Former Australia opener David Warner has stated that he is willing to participate in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT 2024) if his services are required by the senior national men's squad.
Warner has stated that he is willing to play the Sheffield Shield, Australia's main domestic red-ball tournament, if he is required to open the batting for Australia against India in the highly anticipated five-match series.
David Warner's appeal comes as the Australian selectors and team management seek an opening partner for Usman Khawaja.
A space for an opener has opened up in the Australian Test team after selection committee chief George Bailey indicated earlier in October that Steve Smith will no longer open and will revert to his No. 4 spot.
Warner had retired from Tests last year, hanging up his boots after a sensational farewell in Sydney in a Test match against Pakistan in January. Ever since Steve Smith opened the batting for Australia alongside Usman Khawaja.
"I am always available, just got to pick up the phone. I am always deadly serious. Let's be honest, the guys have played one red ball game since their last Test matches in February, so I've almost had the same preparation.

Meanwhile, the Australian selectors are eyeing 19-year-old Sam Konstas from NSW and Marcus Harris as opening options for the India Test series.
The five-Test series will begin in Perth on November 22 onwards.
