The BGT 2024 to begin with the first Test to be played in Perth from November 22 onwards.
Meanwhile, the India A team will arrive in Australia a few weeks earlier for a two-match series and will extend their stay to assist the senior squad in getting some practice under Australian conditions with a three-day tournament from November 15 to 17 at the WACA in Perth, which will also host the first Test match of the series.
The Cricbuzz report further added that India A will most likely be captained by Ruturaj Gaikwad and might have some of the Test regulars in the squad to get them acclimatized to the Australian conditions before the Test series begins.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has yet to release the roster that will comprise the India A side, but reports indicate that it could be announced within a week.
According to a Cricket Australia (CA) official, there would be no warm-up game between India and Australia because the practice has fallen out of favor in recent years. The insider also disclosed that Australia has no warm-up games scheduled for their 2023 tour of India.
“It’s (an) internal (match), so up to India how they use the game. Maybe some of the Test players may play in the India A games but again up to the BCCI. Not many countries seem to play warm-up games these days. Australia didn’t play any before the last series in India,” a CA official said as quoted by Cricbuzz.
Indian team is currently preparing for the three-match Test series against New Zealand that begins on October 16.
The first Test will be played at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. This would be followed by the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune playing host for the second game beginning on October 24 and finally the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai for the final match of the series starting November 1.
