Green had complained of back soreness during Australia's white-ball tour of UK.
Cameron Green, Australia all-rounder, is in danger of missing the entire Australia v India Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT 2024) after surgery has become the front-running solution to address his back injury.
Cameron Green had suffered the injury during Australia’s tour of the UK and had flown back home after complaining of back soreness following the third ODI against England at Chester-le-Street. He had undergone scans in the UK and then in Australia, but the Cricket Australia medical team has taken their time in assessing how to move forward with no formal plan yet released.
Green, 25, has suffered four previous stress fractures, but none before 2019, and has been meticulously handled over his first four years of international cricket.
If surgery is chosen, he will be unable to participate in activities over the summer. If a non-surgical rehabilitation plan is followed, he may be able to play cricket as a batter this summer, but the timeline for his availability has yet to be defined.
Green's absence from the series would allow Australia to alter the batting order, with Steven Smith returning to No.4.
If Green is unavailable and Smith moves to four, an opener from Shield cricket might be selected, with Marcus Harris, Cameron Bancroft, and Matt Renshaw all in contention, as they were last summer until Smith put his hand up to open.
