Pujara hit his first Test century since SCG 2019.
Team India's star batter Cheteshwar Pujara ended a 1443-day and 52 innings wait to score his 19th Test century in the second innings of the ongoing first Test against Bangladesh in Chattogram. He had come very close to a century in 1st innings but was dismissed for 90.
After wrapping the Bangladesh innings for 150 runs, the Indian team decided to bat again and though captain KL Rahul got out for 23 runs, opener Shubman Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara added runs at a brisk rate.
Shubman Gill scored his maiden Test century, finishing with 110 in 152 balls with 10 fours and 3 sixes to his name, and added 113 runs for the second wicket with Pujara. The veteran Indian batter then shifted gears after Gill got out and went after his century with gusto.
He hit a boundary to reach his 19th Test ton which came after 1443 days and 52 innings after SCG in 2019. He celebrated by looking towards the sky and thanking the almighty.
At the other end, Virat Kohli was more ecstatic at Pujara getting to triple figures and held his arms out wide for a hug, which he gave the Saurashtra batter with a huge smile on his face. KL Rahul immediately declared the Indian innings at 258/2 and set Bangladesh to chase down a 513-run target.
