India made 404 runs in their first innings.
But then the Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan and the bowlers were frustrated thanks to an amazing 92-run partnership for the 8th wicket between R Ashwin and Kuldeep Yadav. In due course, Kuldeep hit his highest Test score of 40 with 5 fours, while Ashwin made his 13th Test fifty, finishing with 58 runs.
India was finally bowled out for 404 runs, with Mehidy Hasan (4/112) and Taijul Islam (4/133) being the pick of the bowlers.
However, a rare incident happened in the 112th over of the Indian innings as India was awarded 5 extra runs which were penalized on the Bangladesh team thanks to their fielder hitting the extra helmets with the ball while throwing it to the keeper.
In that over’s 2nd ball bowled by Taijul, Ashwin got an edge and the ball went past the first slip to the third man region. In the throw that followed, the ball hit the helmet placed behind the wicketkeeper and Team India was awarded five penalty runs.
Here is the video of the same:
India got two early wickets with Najmul Hossain getting out on the first ball of the innings for a duck to Mohammed Siraj and then Yasir Ali perishing for 4 runs, being bowled by Umesh Yadav. Bangladesh was 37/2 when tea happened with Litton Das on 24* and debutant Zakir Hasan on 9*.
