The first Test of the two-match series between Bangladesh and India got underway at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on December 14, 2022.

India's captain for this Test, KL Rahul won the toss and chose to bat first. Both India openers Rahul (22) and Shubman Gill (20) fell early with the captain chopping a wide delivery onto his stumps and Gill getting out trying to play a paddle sweep. India then lost Virat Kohli for 1 run as he was out LBW to Taijul Islam.

Rishabh Pant then counterattacked with 46 runs in 45 balls, before getting bowled by Mehidy Hasan. Then Shreyas Iyer and Cheteshwar Pujara added 149 runs for the 5th wicket before Pujara was dismissed for 90 by Taijul.

However, in the earlier over, something bizarre happened. Ebadot Hossain bowled the 5th ball of the 83rd over of the Indian innings to Shreyas Iyer and the ball kept a bit low beating Iyer’s defensive shot.

The ball then hit the off-stump with some force and disturbed the bail enough to get it lightning up, but the bail on the leg and middle stump refused to fall down, despite sitting on the stumps above the groove and though it kept lighting up.

As the bail didn’t fall off, Iyer survived and had a laugh with Pujara about the situation while Bangladeshi players cursed their luck.
