Dinesh Karthik lauded Indian selectors for giving importance to domestic performances.
Veteran Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik admitted that Abhimanyu Easwaran worked really hard and deserves to get his opportunity. However, he still feels the talented batter is unlikely to feature in Team India’s playing XI for the first Test against Bangladesh.
Karthik said that Easwaran might have to wait for his opportunity, as KL Rahul and Shubman Gill are favorites to open for the Indian team in the first match of the two-match Test series against Bangladesh, starting on Wednesday (December 14) in Chattogram.
Dinesh Karthik said on Cricbuzz: “Abhimanyu Easwaran has been around the circuit for some time now, has done really well and now deservingly gets his opportunity. He might not play in the XI because of KL Rahul and Shubman Gill... for sure they will open.”

However, the wicketkeeper said he knows how talented and hardworking Easwaran is and mentioned that he will get his opportunity sooner rather than later.
He added, “I can promise you he's another guy who has been constantly banging at the door. He has been a perfect servant for Bengal in the four or five seasons. His dad is someone who has a fantastic ground in Dehradun, have fond memories of going there. That kid is somebody who has worked so hard, I've seen him, I've played with him, practice with him. I have seen how hard he works.”
Bengal captain Easwaran and the Saurashtra captain Jaydev Unadkat both were selected in India’s Test squad on the basis of their performances in domestic cricket, and Karthik credited the national selectors for giving importance to domestic performances.
He signed off by saying, “Credit to the selectors for giving a lot of time to these performances that happen in domestic cricket because sometimes it can go unnoticed, it's good to see them getting noticed.”
