Ishan Kishan on Saturday (December 10) created history as he became the fourth Indian batter to slam a double century in the 50-over format in the ongoing third ODI against Bangladesh at Chattogram.

The southpaw came into the side after skipper Rohit Sharma got ruled out of the third ODI with a thumb injury and he grabbed the opportunity with both hands.

Opening the innings, Ishan batted aggressively right from the word go to put the opposition bowlers under pressure. The 24-year-old slammed his maiden ODI century in 85 balls and then took the Bangladesh attack to the cleaners.

Kishan started dealing in boundaries after reaching the three-figure mark and took only 41 balls to score his next 100 runs. The left-handed swashbuckler notched up the double hundred with a single off Mustafizur Rahman in the 35th over of India’s innings.

With this landmark, Ishan joined an elite club featuring Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag and Rohit Sharma, who have hit a double hundred for India in ODI cricket. Overall, he became the sixth batter in the history of ODI cricket to achieve this feat and the fastest in terms of balls taken.

Ishan Kishan eventually got out to Taskin Ahmed in the 36th over of India’s innings, but not before he smashed 210 off 131 balls with 24 fours and 10 sixes.

For converting his maiden ODI ton into a daddy hundred, Kishan garnered rich praise from the cricket fraternity on Twitter.
