Bumrah has five wickets in four games in Asia Cup 2025.
The 31-year-old Bumrah used the social media site X (previously Twitter) to respond to Kaif and his conclusion that India is not making the best use of Bumrah in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025 because they attempt to manage the fast bowler's workload.
Kaif, who has scored 3377 runs in 138 international matches, noted after the Bangladesh encounter that although Rohit Sharma, as the T20I captain, used Bumrah at different points in the game, he had bowled three of his four overs during the powerplay against Bangladesh under Suryakumar Yadav.
Kaif said that the reason Bumrah bowled three overs consecutively early on was that it helps him avoid injuries, and added that such a strategy is not in India’s favour.
“Bumrah under Rohit would generally bowl overs 1, 13, 17, 19. Under Surya, in the Asia Cup, he bowled a three-over spell at the start. To avoid injury, Bumrah these days prefers to bowl while his body is warmed up. 1 over of Bumrah in the remaining 14 overs is a huge relief for batters, against stronger teams at the World Cup, this could hurt India,” Kaif wrote on X.
Bumrah was quick to criticise Kaif for his “inaccurate” analysis as he blasted the former cricketer on social media while sharing his message.
“Inaccurate before inaccurate again,” Bumrah wrote while reposting Kaif’s post.
Jasprit Bumrah had taken five wickets in four games this far, with best bowling of 2/18 with an economy of 7.33 in the Asia Cup 2025.
