India defeated Pakistan by 6 wickets in Super Fours match in Dubai.
After Pakistan was set to bat first in the Super Four match at the Dubai International Stadium, the event occurred on the third ball of the third over. As the ball headed straight for the keeper, Fakhar, who was trying to play offside against Hardik Pandya's off-cutter, created an outside edge.
Despite Samson's clean clutch and little dive, the on-field umpires sent the ball to the third umpire since it was so near the ground. Fakhar was surprised as he slowly made his way back to the pavilion as the third umpire upheld the appeal after thorough consideration from several angles.
Following Pakistan's six-wicket loss to India in Sunday's Asia Cup 2025 Super Four match in Dubai, former Pakistani bowler Shoaib Akhtar was unreserved in his criticism of the umpiring. Akhtar drew special attention to the controversial dismissal of starter Fakhar Zaman, calling it a "wrong decision" that had the potential to alter the outcome of the game.
“Fakhar out nahi tha. Benefit of doubt jana chahiye tha usko....idhar se mujhe angle nahi mil raha, kyun nahi mil raha angle? 26 camera lage hai, angle nahi mil raha. Do usne angle dekhe aur usne decision de diya usne. Jisme ek saamne lag raha tha. Shayad match ban jata agar Fakhar khel jata. Overall, umpiring ka level mujhe mazedaar nahi laga, third umpiring ka. Clear lagta hai, niche ball hai
[Fakhar wasn't out. He should have gotten the benefit of the doubt. He [umpire] can't see the angle from here. Why can't he see the angle? There are 26 cameras, yet no angle is visible. He looked at two angles and made his decision. In one, it seemed to hit the front. Maybe the match would have turned if Fakhar had played. Overall, I didn't find the level of umpiring, especially third umpiring, satisfactory. It clearly looks like the ball is down,” Akhtar said on Tapmad’s post-match show.
Thanks to a half-century by Sahibzada Farhan and contributions by Saim Ayub and Faheem Ashraf, Pakistan posted 171/6 in 20 overs. In response, Abhishek Sharma made 74 in 39 balls, and Shubman Gill made 47 runs, adding 105 runs for the opening wicket. India won comfortably by 6 wickets, registering their second win over Pakistan in this Asia Cup.
