Suryakumar Yadav took back appeal against Siddique's stumping during IND v UAE Asia Cup match.
The incident occurred during the 13th over of the UAE innings, when Siddique missed a pull shot off Shivam Dube and failed to return to the crease, prompting wicketkeeper Sanju Samson to hit the stumps with an underarm throw. The square leg umpire submitted the ruling to his TV counterpart, who ruled it out.
Meanwhile, Siddique had earlier indicated that he was distracted after Dube dropped a towel while bowling. Suryakumar spoke briefly with the on-field umpire before withdrawing his appeal after watching the replay on the huge screen.
While some praised Suryakumar Yadav for his gesture, calling it sportsman spirit, there were some criticizing him for waiting for the TV umpire to give his decision before taking back his appeal.
And now India batter Ajinkya Rahane has shared his views on Suryakumar Yadav’s gesture against the UAE.
“It was a great call by Team India and captain Surya because Junaid was not looking for a run. I guess he was not aware of where the crease was. As a wicketkeeper or a fielder, when you get the ball in hand, your instinct is to aim at the stumps. But it was the right call made by Team India. They have shown great character and a very good sportsman’s spirit. That’s what you want to see in cricket – you play hard, but you play fair,” Rahane said on his YouTube Channel.
India will next play Pakistan in their next match in the Asia Cup 2025 on September 14 in Dubai.
