Shreyas Iyer wasn’t even considered in the reserves for the continental showpiece.
Shreyas Iyer’s omission from India’s Asia Cup 2025 squad was one of the biggest talking points when the 15-member lineup was announced last month.
The contentious point was that Shreyas wasn’t even considered in the reserves for the continental showpiece, which will be played in the T20I format in the UAE from September 9 to September 28.
Shreyas hasn’t been in the T20 scheme of things since the beginning of 2024. However, he had strengthened his selection claims through consistent performances in the IPL over the past two editions.
The 30-year-old played a key role both as a batter and captain, leading Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to the title win in 2024, and guiding PBKS to the final of the IPL 2025 season.
While speaking on his YouTube channel, former India wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel addressed Shreyas Iyer’s snub from the Asia Cup side, asking the middle-order batter to remain patient and wait for his chance.
“The criticism is bound to happen whenever an Indian team is selected. Shivam Dube and Rinku Singh were selected, both left-handed batters. So, the question arises, why didn’t Shreyas Iyer find a place?" Parthiv questioned.
“But in my opinion, I feel that someone had to be unlucky. When you are playing cricket, you want the luck to favour you at times, as it makes a big difference. I feel Shreyas Iyer needs to do just one thing: he just has to wait and have some patience," he added.
Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer on Saturday (August 6) was named India A captain for the upcoming two red-ball matches against Australia A in Lucknow. He is currently playing for West Zone in the Duleep Trophy semifinal against Central Zone in Bengaluru.
