India and Pakistan to clash in Dubai on September 14 in Asia Cup 2025.
Official broadcasters Sony Sports Network put out an advertisement hyping up the India vs. Pakistan match in the Asia Cup 2025 tournament. It featured Virender Sehwag in it, and fans were not happy with him or the BCCI and threatened to boycott the tournament.
Since the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) announced the Asia Cup schedule earlier this month, the BCCI has been under intense fire. Following the Pahalgam terror assault on April 22, which led to a military stalemate between India and Pakistan and further deteriorated bilateral relations, the Indian board first put a halt to participation. At one point, there were rumors that the tournament might be canceled if the BCCI withdrew.
Following months of speculation, Mohsin Naqvi, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the head coach of the ACC, revealed the dates and locations of every Asia Cup game. The idea that India and Pakistan would face one another three times during the event infuriated supporters even more.
Things got heated up further when the Indian government clarified that there will be no bilateral sporting relations with Pakistan, but the Indian team can play them in multi-nation tournaments, paving the way for the Asia Cup showdown.
Fans reacted angrily to the Sony Sports video, which also featured Pakistani pacer Shaheen Afridi and India's T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav. They also criticized the broadcasters and warned the BCCI that no Indian viewers would watch any of the tournament's matches.
